A mysterious loud boom was allegedly heard again in some areas in Ipoh, reaching Kampar, Tapah and Teluk Intan early morning today.

The phenomenon, which allegedly occurred between 11.50 pm and early morning, has been widely discussed again through several viral posts as well as comments on social media, especially Facebook, since this morning.

The last loud boom was reported in Ipoh and the surrounding area on June 18, and until now, the source of the sound is still a mystery.

A Facebook user known as Nur Khaleisah claimed that she heard the explosion in Kampar, causing the sliding door in her house to shake, reported Berita Harian.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Perak Minerals and Geosciences Department (JMG), Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim, when contacted, said that as of this afternoon, his party had not received any complaints regarding the alleged phenomenon.

He said that although the allegations were only in viral social media posts, his department was still checking with several other parties, including the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia).

He said that the findings from the checks so far denied the claim that the noise was caused by quarry operations and was not related to seismic activity.

"Quarry blasting activities are only allowed from noon to 5 pm between Monday and Friday. The alleged explosion this time, however, occurred in the middle of the night or early morning, which is definitely not from a quarry.

"I have also contacted METMalaysia, and their response stated that their seismic detection equipment also did not detect any activity that caused tremors on the surface of the earth around Ipoh and Kampar," he said.

On June 27, Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, was reported to have said that investigations into the sound of explosions and tremors in several areas around Ipoh, especially on June 18 of the same year, were still ongoing, but so far there have been no specific findings that could explain the cause of the incident.

During the incident, the Perak JMG, in a statement, informed that before the explosion heard on June 18, mysterious explosions that occurred in Ipoh were also reported to have occurred in 2012, 2018, and 2024.

The department at the time, however, confirmed that the cause of the phenomenon was not due to quarry explosions, bomb tests or sonic booms from jets. – February 9, 2026
