KUALA LUMPUR – Kangar MP Noor Amin Ahmad has since apologised to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for accusing him of allegedly posting “selamat jalan” on Facebook following news that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Health Institute.
Amin said he retweeted Dr Mahathir’s aide Adam Mukhriz initial accusation out of resentment that such comments were made against someone who is ill.
“I admit my mistake, as I was driven by resentment that such comments could be made against the sick, despite differing political views. Therefore, I apologise for the mistake.”
Amin’s post has since been taken down.
“I will also seek legal advice on others who have used my Facebook pictures to create fake statements.”
Adam has also deleted his tweet criticising Najib.
Yesterday, Najib said he had ordered his lawyers to take legal action against Amin and Adam over a viral screenshot of a post that cryptically said “selamat jalan?” (safe travels?).
In response to the accusations levied towards him by Amin and Adam, he said he had shown his Facebook activity log as proof of how he had not made the post in question.
He added that his legal team will be taking action against them unless they issue a public apology and remove their posts discrediting Najib.
“It is hard to believe that at a time when Atuk (Dr Mahathir) is sick, they can still manage to slander me in such a way just to politicise matters.”
Last Saturday, Dr Mahathir had been admitted to the IJN cardiac care unit with rumours abuzz about his health.
His daughter Datin Marina Mahathir said he was in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
She added that he was admitted as part of a follow-up to an elective procedure he underwent on January 8. – The Vibes
