KUALA LUMPUR – There are various reasons why PKR chose to go with its own logo in the upcoming Johor election, one of them being to appease its grassroots’ demand.
Taking to Twitter, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad explained that PKR grassroots and supporters overwhelmingly requested to use the party’s logo given it is associated with Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) administration from 2018 to 2020.
“It had its achievements, but also many shortcomings. This includes the empowerment of a faction in Keadilan, which eventually took part in the Sheraton Move, leading to the downfall of the elected PH government.
“Fairly or unfairly, the PH logo has become a symbol of that era,” Nik Nazmi tweeted.

Additionally, pointing towards the Malacca polls last year, Nik Nazmi said the PH logo did not really help the coalition win seats.
He said it has been argued that voters simply did not recognise the logo as well as the Barisan Nasional logo.
“The PKR logo was used by all parties in PH in the 14th general election with good results.
“Despite all the attacks against the party over the years, PH still managed to win in 2018 using PKR’s logo.
“The PH logo, in contrast, remains relatively untested nationally,” Nik Nazmi said.
Commenting further, the Setiawangsa MP said that component parties in PH have a history of being flexible with using logos, pointing towards PKR using their own logo during the Sg Kandis by-election.
Even when DAP and Amanah used Warisan’s logo to contest in the 2020 Sabah polls, there was no objection by PKR.
“PH remains united and solid in facing the upcoming Johor election as well as in the defence of the rights of the Malaysian people.
“The logo issue is a question of strategy & tactic in our effort to get the best possible result,” Nik Nazmi says.
Earlier today, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that PKR will be using their own logo during the upcoming Johor election while DAP and Amanah will use the PH logo. – The Vibes, January 26, 2022
