KUALA LUMPUR – Comedian Shahrol Azizie Azmi’s attempt to discredit the works done by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman backfired tremendously as netizens jumped to the defence of the Muda founder.
In a tweet yesterday, the celebrity who is more popularly known as Shahrol Shiro had shared an interview clip of several Muar residents slamming Syed Saddiq over unfulfilled promises.

The video was accompanied by the caption: “The complaints from Muar people over the sweet promises made by Pakatan Harapan (PH) have certainly exposed the truth. Don’t be fooled!”
The 1.27-minute clip, which has since gone viral, also contained the hashtags #JanganTerpedaya (don’t be fooled) and #FakeSaddiq.
But rather than agreeing with the content of his tweet and video, the majority of comments slammed Shahrol, who is also a Kluang Umno Youth exco member.
Many noted that the 22-month period PH was in federal power was too short a time for the coalition to make any meaningful changes.
Others questioned why he did not produce a video to showcase the majority of Malaysians’ disappointment at the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional administrations.
Leading the chorus of criticism against Shahrol is Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, who said it is always possible to find disgruntled voters in any constituency for the sake of content, even in Umno-held areas like Sembrong, Bera, Pekan and Pontian.
“So much energy and money being poured in to fight one Syed Saddiq, he must be doing something right,” she said.

Some also appear to poke fun at the former Maharaja Lawak Mega winner, saying the lame jokes that were synonymous with him during his time in the comedy competition have now crept its way into his political life.
For @DhiyaudinHassan, Shahrol’s action had only humiliated himself, adding that he has now turned into an Umno bootlicker having failed at becoming a proper comedian.

Another user @HdinHafizuddin said: “Rather than continue acting and cracking bland jokes, why not contest in Kluang? Then, you can raise all these issues in the state assembly. That is, if you can win the election.”

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq also took to defend himself by sharing some of the works he had already done in his constituency of Muar which have benefited thousands, despite not receiving any parliamentary allocation.
