LANGKAWI – A 12-year-old girl suffered serious head injuries after she slipped and fell from the fourth floor of an empty commercial building next to the WE Hotel here.

In the early morning incident today, the schoolgirl, who is believed to be holidaying here, was said to be out wandering when she fell from an elevated height.

Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department head Fadzlullah Mohd Noor, who confirmed the incident, said that the firemen responded within minutes upon receiving a distress call.

The girl was conscious, and she was stabilised.

“We bandaged her head before she was transferred to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital here for further treatment,” Fadzlullah told reporters.

He advised family members to be alert at all times on the whereabouts of their children when holidaying as the surroundings may be different from home.

Meanwhile, Tourism Langkawi chairperson Ahmad Pishol Isahak said that the safety and security of tourists must always be given priority by the travel trade community.

He said that besides having to deal with Covid-19, the travel trade community must also ensure that tourists are informed about safety measures in sensitive areas like when they are out swimming, island hopping and hiking. – The Vibes, February 2, 2022
