KOTA KINABALU – The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESScom), the authoritative body that oversees the security of Sabah’s east coast districts, today stated it has detained several undocumented migrants linked to a dubious cult called “Wali Tujuh” (Seven Saints).
A statement issued by ESScom commander Hamzah Ahmad today said the men were arrested in a raid held at the Ladang Bukit Kertam oil plantation in Kota Kinabatangan on the night of February 1.
“Further probe at the district police headquarters revealed the men were involved in the dubious teachings called Wali Tujuh.”
“No identification documents were found on the men and they are now being probed under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act.
“Several personal items seized from these individuals include a Putikaan (fortune telling) calendar, knives, slingshots, several talismans,” he said.
The authorities believe that the cult has been active over the past three months and was being led by a teacher and two assistants.
The group was apparently teaching migrant workers in plantations around Lahad Datu and Kinabatangan “occultism” and “invincibility”.
Hamzah added that the group now has about 20 followers who are mostly plantation workers in the district.
Authorities in September last year arrested a woman who allegedly led the “Kumpulan Perjalanan Mimpi Yang Terakhir” (The Last Dreamwalk Group) cult.
