JOHOR BARU – Those aged between 18 to 20 will be allowed to vote for the first time in the country, with the Johor polls slated for March 12.

The state polls are the first election since the implementation of Undi18 and the automatic voter registration in January.

According to Election Commission (EC) Chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh, the electoral roll that will be used for the Johor polls is the one updated as of January 21.

Last month, it was reported that the EC will update its electoral roll on January 16 to include 1.2 million young voters.

This was confirmed by an EC official at a press conference at the Persada International Convention Centre here today.

Ghani said 2,597,742 voters are eligible to vote in the southern state, of which 175,000 are expected to be those between 18 and 21.

Today, the EC also announced that Johor will go to the polls on March 12.

Nomination day has been set for February 26.

It is also expected that 70% of voters will turn up on polling day. – The Vibes, February 9, 2022
