KOTA KINABALU – Sabah has rolled out new procedures today to curb the rising number of coronavirus infections in the state, which now places almost all districts in the red zone.
A total of 3,361 new cases were reported in the state, up 392 cases from yesterday’s 2,969 cases.
In the daily Covid-19 briefing, it was reported that 26 districts were now in the red zone. Only Kalabakan remained in the yellow-red zone.
The state also reported two deaths and two new clusters.
Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 10 Sabah districts reported three-digit infections and also the highest.
They are Kota Kinabalu with 782 cases, followed by Sandakan (374), Tuaran (310), Tawau (263), Penampang (254), Papar (244), Lahad Datu (152), Beaufort (123), Kota Belud (122), and Ranau (107).
“Symptomatic cases remain high, with 1,785 cases or 53.11%. 18 of the 27 districts reported the highest symptomatic cases, and most likely the numbers of infections will continue to spike in the coming days,” he said.
Masidi said Sabah currently has 36 active clusters, 26 of which are school clusters, six work clusters, two community clusters and one religious and high-risk cluster, respectively.
Two new clusters recorded are a community cluster named Loboh Nabawan cluster and Pengkalan Abai cluster, an education cluster, he said.
“Loboh Nabawan is a funeral ceremony, where the index case involved a 59-year-old woman who had symptoms on February 6.
“She was confirmed positive at the Nabawan health clinic on February 8, and close contact screening saw 16 more individuals were found positive,” he said.
On the Pengkalan Abai cluster, Masidi said an 18-year-old female student staying at the hostel of SMK Agama Tun Said has been identified as the index case.
“The student was found positive on February 9, and screening on close contacts found 38 more individuals had been infected,” he said.
On the new SOPs, Masidi said the number of guests for social events has now been capped at 150 people or 50% of the venue capacity, whichever is lower for weddings, engagements and receptions.
“Fifty persons for religious prayers, birthdays, celebrations, reunions, retreats and other social events,” he added. – The Vibes, February 11, 2022
