JOHOR BARU – DAP has remained quiet over its Johor chief Liew Chin Tong’s candidacy in the state polls, despite speculation of him being considered for the Perling constituency over fellow partyman and incumbent Cheo Yee How.
Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said in a press conference in Kulai that if Liew is a candidate in the state polls, it will be made known at another date.
“I want to emphasise that we are all standing strong under one party, and everyone will support all the candidates we have chosen.”
Earlier, Astro Awani cited sources that Liew was being considered for the Perling constituency. The seat was won by Cheo in the 2018 general election.
When asked if Cheo will be considered as a candidate, Lim merely thanked the Perling incumbent for his contributions.
Meanwhile, on Sabah-based Warisan’s entry into the state polls and its potential to take Chinese votes from DAP, Lim said he would refrain from making assumptions.
When asked about DAP-Warisan ties, Lim said, “What relationship?”
In the event today, DAP announced two more candidates for the upcoming polls. Yeu Tung Siong will contest in Pekan Nanas, while Ng Yak Howe runs in Bentayan. – The Vibes, February 19, 2022
