KOTA KINABALU – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) should iron out its own affairs first before accepting new parties into its fold, said Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).
PBS secretary-general Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said formalisation of GRS is still in the works and therefore must preserve its original members.
The parties in GRS, which won the Sabah election in 2020, comprises Sabah Perikatan Nasional, Sabah Barisan Nasional and PBS.
“We must not rush to form new alliances with parties whose loyalty and true partnership are yet to be proven,” said Joniston in a statement here today.
Joniston who is also GRS information chief said this in response to plans by newly formed Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat party led by Melalap assemblyman Datuk Peter Anthony to applying to be part of GRS.
The Kiulu assemblyman stressed that any party intending to join GRS must demonstrate their aspiration, motivation and contribution to GRS first before being allowed into the Sabah alliance.
“The people helming these parties who want to join GRS were political opponents just a year ago and the priority is to safeguard the original partners while strengthening unity.
“We want to see the coalition built on trust and ensure the interest of the people and the future of Sabah,” he said. – The Vibes, February 22, 2022
