KUALA LUMPUR – Amidst the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given his assurance that Malaysians currently in Ukraine will be well taken care of.
“The government is saddened by the developments taking place in Ukraine. Our priority at this time is to ensure that Malaysian families in Ukraine are safe,” he said in a Twitter post today.
Noting that there are currently 11 Malaysians still in Ukraine, Ismail Sabri said that the Malaysian Embassy in Kyiv is currently working to provide protection and “a safe haven” for Malaysians prior to their journey back to Malaysia.
A total of 23 Malaysian citizens had registered with the embassy, with 12 having already returned home.
“Malaysia hopes that the best possible peaceful solution between Russia and Ukraine can be reached soon, and subsequently resolve the conflict successfully,” he said.

Prior to this, Ukraine’s ambassador to Malaysia, Olexander Nechytaylo had told The Vibes that the safety and security of Ukrainians, expats, international guests and visitors have always been a top priority for the Ukrainian government.
Earlier today, Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg denounced Russia’s “reckless and unprovoked attack” on Ukraine, warning it had put “countless” lives in jeopardy.
The statement came after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine, following which explosions were heard in multiple locations across the pro-Western country.
Some of the latest reports from the United States indicate that the Kremlin has amassed a force of around 150,000 troops, including aircrafts, ground forces and ships around the Russia-Ukraine border. – The Vibes, February 24, 2022
