LARKIN – Muda is not giving up on an attempt to wrest the Larkin state seat in Johor as its candidate Rashid Abu Bakar was the first to arrive at the nomination centre here today.

Rashid, attired in grey, arrived at approximately 8.15am at the Dewan Serbaguna JKR here.

This was followed by Barisan Nasional’s Hairi Md Shah at 8.30am dressed in the coalition’s iconic dark blue.

Hairi also holds the helm as Johor Umno youth chief.

Next was PKR’s Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain who arrived at the centre donning his party’s signature light blue.

Shortly after was Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Bujang and independent candidate Norramadan Buang.

Last to arrive at the nomination centre was Pejuang’s Mohammad Riadz Hashim.

This effectively means that Larkin will see a six-corner battle. The constituency has been set upon by all the major political players in the peninsula, new and old.

Larkin is touted to be one of the must watch constituencies for the upcoming Johor polls which is scheduled to take place on March 12 , given Muda will be going head on against PKR, a move which has drawn the latter’s scorn.

However, Johor PKR Chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said the party will not retaliate by placing its candidates in seats contested by Muda.

PKR has said that it will only assist Pakatan Harapan partners Amanah and DAP with its machinery, leaving Muda out in the cold during the campaign period.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will not be contesting for any of the state seats within his Muar parliamentary constituency.

The former youth and sports minister revealed in a tweet this morning that he was in Larkin to support DAP’s Liew Chin Tong’s nomination as a candidate there.

The state seat which Syed Saddiq was earlier rumoured to want to contest was Maharani, which is about an hour’s drive away northbound.

Pending official confirmation, Maharani is set to see a five-cornered fight between all the major political outfits, including newcomer Parti Bangsa Malaysia. – The Vibes, February 26, 2022
