JOHOR BARU – PKR’s election machinery will not provide Muda with any assistance during the campaign period in Johor if the youth-led party insists on clashing in Larkin.
In a statement today, Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh expressed disappointment over Muda’s decision to field a candidate in the Larkin state seat.
He said he believes Muda will probably submit a candidate for Larkin since the party did not agree with seats previously offered by PKR.
“I have to emphasise that Muda’s actions go against the principle of fighting our enemies together. Much worse, the move appears to hand over a win to our enemies.”
He added that PKR will refrain from taking revenge and will not contest other seats where Muda has placed its candidates out of respect to Pakatan Harapan components DAP and Amanah.
“If Muda stands by its decision to contest in Larkin, where PKR has placed its candidate Zamil Najwah Arbain, the party’s machinery will only assist DAP and Amanah in Johor. Muda still has time to reconsider its actions before nomination tomorrow,” said Syed ibrahim.
Yesterday, Muda announced that it will contest the Parit Raja, Machap and Larkin seats for the Johor polls.
For Larkin, Muda has placed 28-year-old Rasid Abu Bakar as candidate.
This decision has ignited a wave of criticism by PKR members such as Johor PKR Youth chief Yuneswaran Ramaraj, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, PKR Youth election director Fahmi Zainol and PKR student wing chief Syamil Luthfi.
They slammed Muda as being “opportunistic” and going back on its promises.
Umno will field Mohd Hairi Mad Shah under the Barisan Nasional banner for Larkin.
Last month, then Larkin assemblyman Datuk Mohd Izhar Ahmad announced his departure from Bersatu with immediate effect, citing a loss of confidence in party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. – The Vibes, February 20, 2022
