POLICE have frozen or seized assets including 404 bank accounts holding RM85.62 million and 70 share-trading accounts worth RM323.59 million in an investigation into alleged corporate mafia activities.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said 70 individuals had been called in to have their statements recorded as at Sept 25 under the police operation, Op Viking.

The enforcement action also involved eight properties, 11 vehicles and 417 Central Depository System (CDS) accounts, he said in a written parliamentary reply published on the Parliament website yesterday.

Saifuddin said Bukit Aman’s Anti-Money Laundering Criminal Investigation Task Force launched the operation following intelligence and information relating to suspected money-laundering activities.

An investigation paper was opened on Oct 14, 2025, under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

He said police had arrested several individuals and taken action to freeze and seize assets believed to be linked to the activities under investigation.

On the possibility of establishing a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI), Saifuddin said the government had not ruled out the option but would assess whether there were clear grounds and a need for a more comprehensive investigation.

He was responding to Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka), who asked about the progress of the corporate mafia investigation and the government's readiness to establish an RCI.

Saifuddin said the government would ensure that credible allegations were investigated transparently and that appropriate action was taken under the law, regardless of the position or background of those involved.

The issue came under renewed scrutiny after Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman questioned the government's failure to disclose the findings of its initial investigation, despite the matter having been announced in February.

At the Dewan Rakyat sitting last Tuesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reportedly gave an assurance that the government would not protect anyone involved in corporate mafia activities. - November 3, 2026
