Government agrees to improve officers' career progression - November 2, 2026

THE Malaysian Armed Forces' (MAF) operational readiness and defence asset requirements were reviewed at a special meeting with the government's top leadership, which also agreed to improve career progression for senior military officers.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the improvements recognised the significant responsibilities shouldered by senior officers in protecting the country's sovereignty and security.

He said the meeting examined the readiness of the various military formations, as well as the procurement and maintenance of defence assets to ensure the MAF maintained optimal operational capabilities.

The discussions were held against the backdrop of an increasingly complex global security and geostrategic environment, which requires Malaysia to strengthen its defence capabilities.

Anwar said the government valued direct feedback from the MAF leadership, stressing that policies and decisions must reflect actual operational needs rather than considerations made solely on paper.

"The MADANI government will continue to give due attention to the needs and welfare of MAF personnel.

"Safeguarding the country's sovereignty and peace is not merely the responsibility of the security forces, but a great trust that we must uphold together," he said. - November 2, 2026
