THE Immigration Department has identified 224 hotspots for the presence of undocumented migrants nationwide, with Kuala Lumpur's Chow Kit market among locations under continuous surveillance.

Immigration deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Lokman Effendi Ramli said no location in the country was exempt from monitoring or enforcement operations against undocumented migrants.

He stressed that raids could be conducted at any time, including at locations that had previously been targeted.

“I would like to emphasise that no location is exempt from raids, even if it has been raided before.

“If we find that activities violating immigration regulations are still taking place, raids will continue regardless of how many times enforcement operations have been conducted there,” he told a press conference today.

Lokman said the department continuously carried out surveillance and intelligence gathering not only at identified hotspots but also at other locations considered at risk of becoming hideouts for undocumented migrants.

He warned that Malaysians could also face legal action if found harbouring undocumented migrants or committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“I want to remind Malaysians once again not to engage in any activity that could be considered harbouring undocumented migrants, as legal action can be taken against them.

“Nationwide, we have identified 224 hotspots, and Chow Kit market is among the locations under constant Immigration Department surveillance.

“This means raids can be conducted at any time.

“Enforcement is not limited to foreign nationals but also targets premises owners and employers,” he said. - October 31, 2026
