HAVING represented Bukit Katil for two terms, Adly Zahari knows the constituency well.
But the Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman is taking nothing for granted as he prepares to defend the seat against three challengers in the Melaka state election.
Adly said the contest remained open, pointing out that every party and coalition had its own strengths and could not be dismissed.
“I have served two terms in Bukit Katil, but I have never taken the challenge lightly because we know every party and coalition has its own strengths,” he said.
The Deputy Defence Minister said he would continue appealing to voters, particularly with some 4,000 young voters added to the constituency’s electorate.
He said the campaign would also focus on making sure residents were aware of what had been done for Bukit Katil over the past eight years and what PH intended to pursue if given another mandate.
“We must ensure all voters know what we have done in Bukit Katil and what our plans are for the future,” he told reporters at the nomination centre at Dewan Tun Ali today.
Among the issues addressed during his time as assemblyman was flooding, which had affected parts of the constituency.
Adly said he hoped residents would weigh the work carried out over the past eight years, together with the contributions of the MADANI government, when deciding whether to return PH to power.
“I am confident that the services delivered so far, together with the contributions of the MADANI government, will enable the people of Bukit Katil to continue supporting PH,” he said.
He faces a three-way challenge from Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Muhammad Ridzuan Mohd Sarif, BERSAMA candidate Dr Aliza Che Amran and independent candidate Abu Bakar Sabudin. - October 31, 2026
