Prasarana told to speed up maintenance to ease Kelana Jaya LRT congestion - October 31, 2026

PRASARANA Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has been directed to expedite train maintenance to increase the number of operational trains and ease passenger congestion, particularly on the Kelana Jaya LRT line.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said technical problems and maintenance requirements had reduced the number of trains in service, affecting service frequency and increasing passenger waiting times.

The situation had resulted in overcrowding at stations, particularly during peak hours.

“Our first priority is to ensure maintenance work is completed more quickly so that more trains can be put into service. That is the short-term measure,” he told reporters after presenting assistance to tenants and homeowners affected by a fire near UTC Ampangan.

For the medium and long term, new trains are expected to be delivered in stages over the next six months to two years.

Efforts are also underway to achieve a three-minute service frequency during peak hours.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed Loke to urgently address congestion on the train services, warning that the problem could disrupt the daily routines of Malaysians.

The directive followed complaints by a commuter on the Threads platform about overcrowding at stations along the line.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, called on Rapid KL to give the issue immediate attention and implement solutions.

“This happens frequently and certainly disrupts the daily routines of the majority of the people.

“We must be more responsive and take action,” he said. - October 31, 2026
