A TOTAL of 1,159 police personnel have been assigned to maintain security throughout the 14-day campaign for the 16th Melaka state election, following a nomination process that passed without any untoward incidents.
Melaka police chief Datuk Wira Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the nomination process at all 28 centres across the state was completed peacefully, with no incidents affecting public order.
The centres covered the six parliamentary constituencies of Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah, Tangga Batu, Hang Tuah Jaya, Kota Melaka and Jasin.
Of the total personnel, 511 are from the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters, 378 from Alor Gajah and 270 from Jasin.
Dzulkhairi said police deployments would be adjusted according to operational requirements as the campaign progressed.
He urged all candidates, political parties and their supporters to abide by election laws and regulations, including directives issued by the Election Commission.
He warned against provocation and behaviour that could disrupt public order or spark tensions, adding that police would remain professional and impartial in dealing with any violations.
Police would also monitor social media activity, particularly the spread of false information, defamatory material, incitement and content touching on race, religion and royalty (3R) sensitivities.
Dzulkhairi cautioned the public against producing or sharing content that could threaten social harmony.
He said political differences should not be allowed to undermine unity among communities, urging all sides to conduct their campaigns responsibly and respect one another.
The Melaka police contingent would remain committed to ensuring the election proceeded peacefully and safely, he added. - October 31, 2026
