JOHOR BARU – Youth-based party Muda’s candidate for the Larkin state seat in Johor has urged voters in other constituencies to support his fellow candidates in the opposition during the election which takes place on March 12.

Rashid Abu Bakar’s statement follows his appearance at the Larkin nomination centre which confirmed a clash between PKR and Muda.

Asked if Muda will urge voters in other constituencies to support PKR, Rashid said, “Of course, we respect our friends and foes.

“We ask for support for all opposition parties whether they are PKR, Muda, Amanah, and DAP, we want to all be together.”

However, Rashid said that he hopes Muda’s clash with PKR will not be an exclusive focus of the polls, emphasising that there are 56 seats in the state and only one sees the two opposition parties vying with each other.

Meanwhile, PKR’s Larkin candidate Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain said that the clash should not have happened as the party has a relationship with Muda as an opposition outfit.

He explained that discussions between Muda and PKR had been ongoing until last night.

Asked what he would tell voters in other constituencies where Muda is contesting, Dr Zamil said, “To me, leave to the people there to think of what their actions should be.

“If you say I am a good fan of yours, and today you betray me, let them decide,” he added.

Larkin will see a six-cornered battle after nominations today.

Besides Dr Zamil and Rashid, Barisan Nasional’s Hairi Md Shah, Pejuang’s Mohammad Riadz Hashim, Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Bujang and independent candidate Norramadan Buang will also contest here. – The Vibes, February 26, 2022
