KUALA LUMPUR – The number of flood evacuees in Terengganu has risen while those in Kelantan have dropped as of 8pm last night.
In Terengganu, the number of evacuees rose to 14,002 people from 3,888 families compared with 13,530 people from 3,735 families at noon yesterday.
There are currently 159 relief centres in the state, with 35 in Besut, 29 in Dungun, 28 in Setiu, 28 in Hulu Terengganu, 23 in Kemaman, nine in Kuala Terengganu, six in Kuala Nerus, and one in Marang.
The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat announced that Kemaman had the highest number of evacuees with 4,420 people, followed by Hulu Terengganu (3,696), Dungun (1,999), Besut (1,622), Setiu (1,291), Kuala Terengganu (622), Kuala Nerus (347), and Marang (five).
The Irrigation and Drainage Department meanwhile reported that only four rivers in four districts were still at danger levels: Sg Kemaman in Kemaman, Sg Nerus (Setiu), Sg Dungun (Dungun) and Sg Terengganu (Kuala Terengganu).
In Kelantan, the number of evacuees dropped to 8,054 people from 2,600 families compared with 8,920 people from 2,862 families yesterday evening.
There are currently 50 relief centres open in the state: 22 in Pasir Mas, 10 in Tanah Merah, eight in Kuala Krai, six in Pasir Puteh, three in Machang, and one in Jeli.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that two main rivers in the state were at danger levels: Sg Golok at Kg Jenob, Tanah Merah (24.03m), and Sg Kelantan at Temangan, Machang (20.20m). – Bernama, March 1, 2022
