JOHOR BARU – Marina Ibrahim, DAP’s candidate for the Skudai state seat in Johor, has been infected with Covid-19.
She said in a Twitter post today that she found out after she tested positive for the virus via a RTK test. She is now undergoing home quarantine and waiting for her PCR test results.
Nevertheless, Marina said that she will continue her campaigning for the upcoming state election through non-physical means, including social media to communicate with voters.
“I hope everyone will continue supporting me and my campaign team until polling day.
“My team will continue to campaign despite my absence,” she said.
The rising number of Covid-19 infections has resulted in calls to relook at the standard operating procedures that are in force for the election period, particularly with regard to campaigning.
So far, as of March 6, candidates who have been confirmed positive for the virus include Pakatan Harapan’s Jementah candidate Ng Kor Sim and Pekan Nanas candidate Yeo Tung Siong; PKR’s Bukit Batu candidate Chiong Sen Sern and Gambir candidate Naim Jusri; and Barisan Nasional’s Penggaram candidate Ter Hwa Kwong.
According to Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s (PBM) Johor election director Haniza Mohamed Talha, there are members and workers from other political parties who have also been found to be infected.
PBM has cautioned that it is not only party personnel who are at risk, but also journalists who are tasked to attend campaigns that attract large crowds. – The Vibes, March 9, 2022
