JOHOR BARU – A woman who is meant to be under quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19 has been fined RM1,000 for showing up at the Kg Melayu hall here to cast her vote today.
Voting for the Larkin constituency, the woman in her 30s was detected by health inspectors from the Johor Baru district health office when checks on her MySejahtera account revealed a red notice.
Getaran, The Vibes’ sister portal, reported that the woman claimed she was unaware of rules prohibiting Covid-19 positive individuals from casting their vote while still under quarantine.
She added that there had been a misunderstanding since she had been told by someone close to her that she could still show up to vote although she is meant to be under quarantine.
Health inspector Mohd Azrul explained to the woman that all Covid-19 positive patients cannot go out to vote to fulfil their rights and responsibilities as they are required to undergo quarantine according to set standard operating procedures.
“As a person who has tested positive, you cannot leave your house at all, much less come out to vote unless your house is in the polling centre.
“We are offering you a compound of RM1,000 and you must show up at the Johor Baru district health office within 14 days,” he said when explaining the situation to the woman’s mother.
After issuing the compound, he had then ordered the woman to immediately return home.
The woman, who had shown up at the polling centre with her mother, was seen leaving the area by herself not long after. – The Vibes, March 12, 2022
