KUALA LUMPUR – PAS should regroup, re-strategise, and pay more attention to the voices of their grassroots if they are to be successful moving forward, said Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.
The Kuala Nerus MP says that PAS’ defeat in 13 seats that they contested yesterday is not considered as a loss, but rather a victory that has yet to materialise.
“Losing is normal for PAS. Winning is extraordinary. PAS is prepared to lose or win in an election because the scale of victory for PAS does not depend on numbers, but on the amount of work done for our struggle.
“We can reflect, but members will always follow the orders of the leadership, so the leadership must make strategic decisions which are better, backed by more detailed research.
“We have to listen to the views of the grassroots and the local machinery who live and mingle with the locals for us to determine our own objectives,” he said.
PAS won their sole seat in Johor under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket through Abdul Aziz Talib, who secured the Maharani seat in Muar where incumbent Nor Hayati Bachok from Pakatan Harapan came in second.
Khairuddin today added how PAS will continue their role as the opposition to the government and ensure the checks and balances, saying the party looks forward to securing wins during the 15th general election.
“The preaching continues. Members and supporters must increase, and PAS divisions must be opened from now.
“One day a victory at the general election will be achieved but only time will decide if that happens sooner or later,” he wrote.
Aside from the Maharani seat, PN only managed to retain the Bukit Kepong seat through incumbent and former menteri besar Datuk Sahruddin Jamal of Bersatu, and the Endau seat that went to Bersatu’s Alwiyah Talib.
Barisan Nasional achieved a supermajority win securing a total of 40 seats out of the 56 contested, with Pakatan Harapan winning 12, and youth-based party Muda, one. – The Vibes, March 13, 2022
