KUALA LUMPUR – Travellers using the air vaccinated travel lanes involving Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia will have to do a swab test upon arrival and be allowed to proceed to the accommodation declared in their MySejahtera app to wait for their test results.
In a statement, the Malaysian Transport Ministry said the “test and release” SOPs effective tomorrow will no longer keep travellers at the terminals until they get their test results.
After the swab tests, travellers are allowed to make their way to their accommodation declared in the MySejahtera home surveillance order via private transport, taxi, and hired vehicles.
“They must then self-isolate whilst awaiting their Covid-19 test results, which will be given within 24 hours. They will be cleared from isolation upon a negative test result.
“In the event of a positive result, travellers are to comply with existing health protocols as prescribed by the Health Ministry. It applies to all VTL arrivals at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Penang International Airport from March 16.”
This move is in line with the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who approved Malaysia’s transition towards the endemic phase of the Covid-19 pandemic starting April 1.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry on March 1 said the country was conducting negotiations with 12 countries to implement vaccinated travel lanes.
In a written reply in Parliament, the ministry said the countries were selected based on diplomatic relations and the need for cross-border travel.
“As such, for the Asean region, the Malaysian government is negotiating with Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand.
“The other countries are Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and the United Kingdom,” the ministry said in reply to a question by Larry Sng (Julau-PBM). – The Vibes, March 15, 2022
