KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry recorded 26,534 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday, an increase of 3,999 cases from the 22,535 reported on Sunday.

Of the new figure, 691 were imported cases. There are currently 304,147 active cases nationwide.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country stands at 3,872,135.

Yesterday also saw 95 deaths and 31,234 recoveries, pushing the total death toll to 33,994 since the beginning of the pandemic.

23 of the deaths were classified as brought-in-dead cases.

At present, there are 8,213 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 376 are in intensive care.

The states and territories that recorded more than 2,000 new infections yesterday are Selangor (6,668), Kuala Lumpur (2,603), Kedah (2,573), Johor (2,386) and Penang (2,361).

States with cases ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 are Negri Sembilan (1,790), Sarawak (1,578), Pahang (1,445), Perak (1,381), Kelantan (1,332), and Terengganu (1,084).

The few states and territories that recorded fewer than 1,000 new cases are Sabah (934), Melaka (689), Perlis (192), Putrajaya (166) and Labuan (129).

Malaysia also recorded four new clusters today – the top being an education cluster known as Jalan Bagan Datuk in Perak, with 74 cases detected so far.
