KOTA KINABALU – Some 1,338 people were displaced by the massive fire at a water village settlement in Kg Kurnia Jaya in Tawau.
According to the Civil Defence Force, some 500 homes were destroyed in the blaze in the squatter colony yesterday evening.
Firemen were only able to bring the fire under control around 9.37pm last night after the fire broke around 4pm yesterday.
A total of 40 fire personnel were deployed to the scene of the fire.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department yesterday said in a preliminary report that a distress call was received at 4.45pm and dispatched a team of three fire trucks and three support vehicles to bring the fire under control.
