KUALA LUMPUR – Some 96.4% of the 352,101 premises targeted this year are now covered by the Gigabit network based on the National Digital Networking Plan (Jendela),  according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

In a statement issued here today, the commission said  83.2% of the targeted existing transmitters have been upgraded to expand and improve the quality of the 4G service.

“The implementation of Jendela is closely monitored by the Jendela Implementation Committee, which meets every two weeks, and the Jendela Steering Committee, chaired by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, which meets every two months.

“The reports are also tabled to the National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Council chaired by the Prime Minister.

“The Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s post-cabinet meeting, which takes place every week, also monitors the implementation of Jendela,” it said.

Following statements by certain quarters on the Internet problem in Sabah and Sarawak,  as well as the rural areas in the peninsula, MCMC said it is taking a responsive approach to address the connectivity issue to ensure the well-being of residents and help bridge the digital divide between one area and another in the country.

“MCMC is aware of the people’s need for a stable Internet network and the situation has become more significant following the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Therefore, MCMC welcomes constructive suggestions that can be utilised to improve the quality of the best experience in line with the goals of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and Budget 2021," it said.
