MIRI – The state is projecting for farmers in Sarawak, including those with small plots of land, to earn up to RM6,000 per month due to strong market demand coupled with the high prices of vegetables, eggs and other agricultural produce throughout the vast state.
Deputy State Agriculture Modernisation Minister Martin Ben said the state has set this as a target for farmers while arranging for training in modern agricultural techniques to improve their productivity.
“They will be trained in marketing aspects for their produce and to maximise usage of their land.
“We in the ministry will also help them plan cluster farming, and form joint ventures with other farmers and commercial agriculture groups,” he said during a meeting with residents involved in agriculture at Serian town in southern Sarawak today.
“Farmers can earn up to RM6,000 per month easily due to the increasing demands for agricultural produce,” he said.
Martin added that the state government has outlined a modernisation plan for small-scale farmers.
“From now until 2030, we will organise agriculture modernisation training programmes for those in the agriculture farming communities,” he said.
He noted that products like vegetables and eggs fetch good prices these days.
Those who have land should venture into farming and apply the techniques of modern planting and harvesting, he added.
He called on all in the farming community to continue supporting the government’s programmes aimed at increasing their productivity and income. – The Vibes, April 4, 2022
