ALOR STAR – A total of 34,200 Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada) account holders in Sik and Kuala Muda are experiencing a water supply disruption after operations at three treatment plants were suspended due to an oil spill.

Sada CEO Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Jusoh, in a statement, said the disruption, which began at 6pm yesterday, involves areas that get water from the Jeniang Baru, Jeniang Lama and Sg Pau plants.

“An oil spill has been detected. Steps have been taken to shut down all three plants.”

He said among the affected areas are Kg Begia, Taman Sejahtera and Kg Changchai, as well as villages in Pekan Sik and Gurun.

“Sada is waiting for the latest feedback from the Kedah Water Resources Board.

“Work to clean the water intake point is expected to be completed (this) morning.” – Bernama, November 13, 2020
