GEORGE TOWN – National reform movement Aliran has called for the immediate release of eight people who were embroiled in a land dispute with a developer near Taman Chepor Impian, Perak.
It said in a statement that such disputes should be resolved through negotiations and not through forced evictions and arrests.
“We are informed that police have detained eight people – four farmers and four Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members.”
It also said the incident yesterday morning was allegedly over forced evictions without court orders and the destruction of their crops.
Yesterday, it was reported that two men believed to be PSM members were arrested for disturbing public order and obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties near Taman Chepor Impian.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said authorities received a call at 8.35am informing them that a group of men had disrupted and threatened the safety of workers who were carrying out clearing work on a private land near Taman Chepor Impian.
He also warned all parties against inciting others to commit acts that could threaten public order and encroaching on land owned by others. – The Vibes, April 14, 2022
