PETALING JAYA – Two political parties have come together with a list of demands on the issue of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi being granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) concerning his 47 corruption charges.

Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) today submitted a letter to Attorney-General (AG) Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh in which they expressed their protest against the AG's Chambers’s decision to apply for a DNAA in Ahmad Zahid’s Yayasan Akalbudi trial.

They made three demands and asked for Ahmad Zahid to temporarily step down as DPM until the matter is resolved.

Both parties asked for the AGC to explain in Parliament why they applied for a DNAA, a timeline for the separation of the AG’s and public prosecutor’s roles and for Ahmad Zahid to be recharged.

Muda and PSM held a press conference today after they submitted the letter to the AG in Putrajaya.

Muda secretary-general Amir Hadi raised the issue of conflict of interest in defending their stand for Ahmad Zahid to step down as the AGC was under the purview of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

“To ensure transparency, he must resign,” Amir Hadi said.

Meanwhile, the two parties labelled Perikatan Nasional (PN), which had also slammed the DNAA, as ‘pot calling the kettle black’.

PSM youth chief Arveent Kathirchelvan claimed that many cases had been similarly discharged when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was prime minister. – The Vibes, September 11, 2023
