GEORGE TOWN – Some 150 children at a private kindergarten here today underwent the Covid-19 swab test, after a pupil and teacher tested positive for the disease.

Many of the kids, aged 5 and 6, cried while being swabbed by Health Ministry officials.

Parents crowded the kindergarten this morning, anxiously waiting for their children to complete the screening.

It is learnt that a 5-year-old pupil tested positive last Tuesday, having contracted the coronavirus from his father.

“Later, a teacher tested positive for Covid-19,” said a parent.

“The 5-year-old has not been to school since last Thursday, but the kindergarten was not informed about his health status.”

This caused other parents to become angry, blaming the preschool administrator for being slow to act.

It is understood that the kindergarten, opened since 2003, received an award for being the best in Penang last year.

The state yesterday recorded 63 new Covid-19 infections, taking its total 1,510.

The third and current virus wave has hit Penang hard, with almost 70% of fresh cases attributed to clusters in prisons.

Infections are steadily increasing, and there are still six active clusters. – The Vibes, November 13, 2020
