Perak boy dies in accidental stabbing on Deepavali eve

IPOH – The joy of Deepavali was snuffed out when a 7-year-old boy died after he was accidentally stabbed in the chest by his 11-year-old cousin in Taman Cempaka Kg Koh, Sitiawan, on Friday.

The victim’s uncle said the incident happened about 10.20pm.

“My nephew, who was the youngest of three siblings, was running towards his cousin, who lives next door.

“He bumped into the girl, who was holding a knife as she was asked by her mother to help cut a piece of rope. The knife pierced him in the chest.

“We took him to Manjung Hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” said the 43-year-old at the forensic department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here today.

Manjung district police chief Nor Omar Sappi confirmed the incident.

He said the post-mortem report stated that the child died of a stab wound in the chest.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the incident occurred due to negligence, he said. – Bernama, November 15, 2020
