KANGAR – Covid-19 related deaths in Perlis skyrocketed to 16 deaths per million people in the past two weeks, topping all the states by percentage in the country.

This follows a prediction by health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who had expected a spike in Covid-19 cases after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

The past few days saw a rising trend in cases over the past seven days, across several states, with Perlis recording a 100% rise with one brought-in-dead patient yesterday.

There were 75 fresh Covid-19 cases reported in Perlis yesterday.

Perlis State Health Department director Dr Sirajuddin Hashim did not comment when contacted.

Following behind in the death toll is Kedah with one in-patient death reported yesterday.

The state is also seeing an uphill trend after the Hari Raya celebrations with 31 hospital admissions for Covid-19 alone. There were a total of 91 cases reported yesterday.

However, Penang has recorded the most Covid-19 cases in the northern region with 123 cases yesterday.

Fortunately, most of the cases reported in the northern region consist of category 1 cases with little or no symptoms.

The nation has seen an increase in infections of Covid-19 of up to 47% with a total of 1,469 cases yesterday. – The Vibes, May 18, 2022
