PERLIS Menteri Besar, Abu Bakar Hamzah, confirmed his resignation as a member of the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) to fully focus on state government administration.

Also taking the same step by submitting her resignation letter last week was Sena State Assemblyman (ADUN) and state government EXCO, Marzita Mansor.

Abu Bakar said the decision was made due to time constraints to attend meetings at the central level, besides wanting to focus on efforts to develop the state since his term of administration only has about a year left.

"This resignation does not affect my position as the Menteri Besar of Perlis. I am resigning simply because I cannot fully commit to the MPT in the current busy situation in Perlis.

"Marzita and I discussed this matter in depth. We are giving way for others to continue serving at the central level, while we focus on services in the state," he said.

Explaining his position at the state level, Abu Bakar said he remains a party member, head of the Perlis and Kangar Bersatu division, with the permission of party president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said he respects the party's top leadership and denies that the action was due to pressure or any intention to jump parties.

"I need to focus on attracting investors and achieving the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set within the next few months. God willing, there are several plans for the well-being of the people and the development of the state that will be formulated in the near future," he said. – July 9, 202
