KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has settled into a comfortable lead in the battle for the four PKR vice-president posts, as the counting of votes passes the midway point this evening.
He obtained 44,916 votes after counting was concluded in Selangor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Kedah, Sabah and Johor, enjoying a cushion of more than 14,000 votes over his closest opponent Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
The majority of Amirudin’s support came from Selangor, where he secured 26,373 votes.
He is the only candidate aligned with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is vying for the deputy presidency.
The remaining three posts are looking to go to candidates aligned with deputy president contender Rafizi Ramli.
Nik Nazmi currently has 30,045 votes, followed by Tg Malim MP Chang Lih Kang (29,504) and Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (28,504).
Former Kapar MP G. Manivannan is in fifth spot with 26,075 votes, while former Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil are behind with 23,793 and 23,229 votes, respectively.
Alor Setar MP Chan Ming Kai, Kapar lawmaker Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid and Sentosa assemblyman G. Gunarajah round up the top 10.
A total of 17 candidates are vying for the vice presidency.
Barring any last-minute shocker, Rafizi has all but secured his position as the new PKR deputy president after pulling ahead with a significant lead. – The Vibes, May 29, 2022
