GEORGE TOWN – In the wee hours today, the Fire and Rescue Department rushed to Penang Bridge’s KM2.2 for a search-and-rescue operation after a man was believed to have fallen into the sea.

Department spokesman Shahrul Munawar Taharen said a red car was left by the road with its engine on and officers found some personal belongings in it.

He added the team has set up an operations centre at Mak Mandin, Butterworth.

Since Monday, several assemblymen had raised the issue of possible suicide cases, with Sg Puyu assemblyman Phee Boon Poh and Batu Uban’s A. Kumaresan highlighting the number of recorded cases in Penang.

Kumaresan said Penang had 64 suicide cases between 2020 and May 2022, and called for the state to draw up solutions to address the issue. – The Vibes, June 1, 2022
