GEORGE TOWN – Desirous to spur Penang residents forward in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the state government has come up with a new official slogan with two words: “Love Penang”.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow invited organisations to adopt the slogan as a mantra and reminder to contribute to the state.

Its theme, he said, is about taking action to make Penang a better place for future generations.

Speaking during the slogan’s launch ceremony at Jen Hotel here today, he encouraged Penang residents to rebuild what was broken, and to reconstruct the hopes and dreams that may have been lost during the lockdowns.

“We want the whole state to be on the same page in terms of community spirit, community living, environmental projects, women empowerment projects and more.

“There will be no allocations from the state to run this concept. Instead we want the people in Penang – it can be through non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government agencies, businesses or groups – to adopt it.

“Love here is an action, calling people to do something for Penang,” Chow said.

As a follow up to the launch, activities will be organised, such as sports events and a hawker food competition for the public to vote for the best street food in the state.

A new website has also been launched as a casual site for the public to get to know the state and activities happening there.

A mobile app will also be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the coming days.

Chow also introduced the First Responders, a team established to respond to queries and issues raised on the chief minister’s social media channels.

A programme to recognise selfless acts or commendable deeds benefiting the community, named the Community Award, was also announced.

In a Facebook post later, Chow said this is not intended to be a “government only” campaign.

“We want the community, NGOs and the people to hold activities and promote the Love Penang spirit,” he said.

“This is a call to action, to come together, rebuild and move forward for a brighter future.” – The Vibes, June 10, 2022
