SETIU – Flood evacuees at two relief centres here are observing the new normal by adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP) to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

A check at the Sungai Lerek community hall and Kampung Bukit Nyior Pelong surau, which are housing 44 people from 11 families, found that all of the evacuees are complying with the stipulated SOP such as checking body temperature, wearing face masks and ensuring physical distancing.

For Romli Mamat, 66, this is a whole new experience for him.

"Before this, we will cook our food together but this year, we were informed that we will be given food packs prepared by caterers.

“We were also told to keep the physical distancing, which is awkward for me, because we are all from the same village ... but we have to adhere to it for our own safety,” said Romli who had to move out of his home early today after floodwaters entered the house and rose up to knee level. – Bernama, November 18, 2020
