AMPANG JAYA – The family of a 22-year-old man is crushed to find that the government and four defendants have appealed against the high court’s decision in a botched penile circumcision.
“Imagine if this incident happened to your children or yourself,” said Nor Hamsiah Ahmad Lathin, the mother of the man whose penis head was cut off when he was 10 years old.
She added that her family is disappointed when informed of the defendants’ decision to appeal against the court’s decision.
“The decision to appeal is cruel. The entire family is disappointed with this,” she said in a press conference organised by law firm Mohamad Zainuddin & Co here today.
She said that since the incident her son spends most of his time at home and no longer socialises with his peers, raising concerns over his future.
“The RM3.1 million compensation pales in comparison to what my son has to go through.”
Meanwhile, lawyer Mohamad Zainuddin Abu Bakar who represents the family said the Kuala Lipis district hospital and Selayang Hospital have been proven to be negligent.
“The case has been prolonged because of elements of concealment of material facts. The head of the penis was removed completely but it was concealed from the family by the staffers and management of the two hospitals,” he claimed.
Case management with the Court of Appeal deputy registrar is set for July 27.
The victim sued on July 19, 2018 via his mother, claiming that the circumcision done on December 13, 2010 did not follow procedures, which resulted in his injury. – The Vibes, July 16, 2022
