POLICE have seized 13.17 tonnes of synthetic drugs and other illicit substances worth RM2.41 billion from a factory in Puncak Alam, in what authorities described as the country’s largest seizure involving ecstasy and yaba pills.
The seizure was made after police raided the premises at the Eco Business Park industrial area in Bandar Puncak Alam, which had allegedly been operating as a drug laboratory for about a year.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the seized substances included methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDMA) in powder and liquid form, cannabis, Erimin 5 pills, ketamine, yaba pills and methamphetamine.
Police also seized equipment and various machines believed to have been used to process the substances into drugs.
Hussein said the materials and machinery were believed to have been brought into Malaysia from China through Port Klang, with the syndicate allegedly using false declarations for cargo containing the drug precursors.
“Through intelligence gathering, police detected the materials and traced the delivery address, which led to the discovery of the premises in Bandar Puncak Alam, which had been operating for about a year,” he said at a press conference Kuala Selangor today.
He said police, together with the Selangor contingent police headquarters, conducted intelligence gathering on the premises for three to six months before the raid.
The double-storey factory premises had allegedly been rented by the syndicate for between RM9,000 and RM10,000 a month.
Police have seized the premises and are also investigating its owner, who Hussein said should have been aware of the activities being conducted there.
Five vehicles — a Toyota Vellfire, Honda City, Lexus GSE20, Proton Persona and Perodua Myvi — were also seized under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, with a combined estimated value of RM276,000.
Five people aged between 29 and 43 were arrested in the operation, comprising three Malaysian men and two foreign nationals, a man and a woman believed to be from Taiwan.
Hussein said the syndicate was involved not only in processing drugs but also in distribution, including the use of drug mules to transport cannabis in flower form.
Investigators are also looking into possible involvement of enforcement personnel in facilitating the entry of the materials into Malaysia.
“All the suspects were charged in court on Aug 21 and 27 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Police believe the large-scale operation was intended to meet demand from neighbouring countries and Europe.
In a related development, Hussein said the alleged mastermind of the drug laboratory operation was a 52-year-old Malaysian man who was shot dead during a raid at a house in Garden Homes, Seremban 2, on Saturday.
“The syndicate leader was the man who was shot dead several days ago. He was linked to the raid that day.
“We believe the man arranged the rental of the premises, brought in precursors and equipment from overseas, and recruited other members of the syndicate,” he said.
Hussein also said the syndicate was linked to a case involving a man rescued by police in July, previously disclosed by Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) director Datuk M. Kumar.
M. Kumar had said the victim in the kidnapping case, involving a RM7 million ransom demand, was subsequently detained by JSJN and investigated under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985. - September 9, 2026
