SHAH ALAM – Party members should learn to channel their comments instead of openly fighting on Facebook and through media statements, said outgoing Wanita PKR head Fuziah Salleh.

“Every little thing you post on Facebook, we are always fighting among ourselves on Facebook, making press statements. Those who want to vote for us are disgusted (menyampah) by this.

“Don’t we have internal channels? Is there no other way to communicate? You think it’s great but you don’t realise that this is destroying the party. This will bring us defeat,” she said in her winding-up speech at the PKR national congress here today.

She added that such behaviour among some party members only benefits PKR’s opponents, who voters feel are more deserving of the mandate to lead.

In another matter, Fuziah – who is also PKR election director – admonished those who did not return the election deposit, adding that she is willing to reveal their names.

She added that if this continues the disciplinary board will blacklist the names and remove them from consideration when the general election comes along.

She then told off members who initially appear to be enthusiastic about becoming election candidates but drop off the radar when they are not picked.

“Want to run for positions because you want to be a candidate, not (because) you want to contribute to the party. When you’re not picked as candidates, you step on the brakes.”

On the party’s election machinery, she said it may look pretty on paper but much needs to be done as it is responsible for building public confidence towards PKR.

Today marks the last day of the party’s national congress after a month of speculations, drama and apparent factionalism. – The Vibes, July 17, 2022
