Suspected mastermind behind influx of illegals in Sarawak nabbed

KUCHING – The Immigration Department yesterday arrested a man, known as “Pak Itam”, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the influx of illegal immigrants in Sarawak.

State Immigration Department director Datuk Ken Leben in a statement said the suspect was detained along with two Indonesians when officers stopped a van in Bintulu about 1.30am.

“Checks showed that Pak Itam is believed to be the mastermind behind the influx of illegals in the state.”

He said the case is related to the arrest of illegals in Jalan Lundu two days ago.

Following Pak Itam’s arrest, he said, an immigration team raided a house in Jalan Sibiyu, Bintulu, and nabbed 12 Indonesians believed to have entered the state illegally.

Investigations are being conducted under the Immigration Act 1959/63. – Bernama, November 20, 2020
