KUALA LUMPUR – At least several dozen ministers and MPs from the government and opposition have arrived at Seri Pacific Hotel near Chow Kit here this evening to attend a closed-door briefing on the claims made by the heirs of the Sulu sultanate.
Reporters on site were told that Bukit Aman has issued a gag order on the details and that the matters discussed have been placed under the Official Secrets Act.
Among those spotted entering the hotel’s Pacific Ballroom were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, and Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Nancy Shukri, among others.
“The media will not be allowed to interview the leaders when they exit the meeting,” a government official, who declined to be named, said outside the ballroom.
It is understood that the briefing had begun slightly after 8.30pm, and it is expected to last up to two hours.
During a presser in the Dewan Rakyat earlier today, Teo claimed she, along with other independent MPs and those from the opposition bloc, had received a “confidential” invitation to attend a briefing at the hotel in the capital, which will be conducted by three ministers.
Teo said the MPs will be briefed by Wan Junaidi, Saifuddin and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
