KUALA LUMPUR – After being labelled as political “frogs” in and out of the Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin hits back at critics, saying that Bersatu gave full support in the constitutional amendments relating to party-hopping.
Hamzah, who is party secretary-general, said he had called for patience among Bersatu lawmakers despite being painted as bogeymen.
“There are some that use all sorts of analogies against us but everyone present including those from Bersatu has voted.
“We stand tall because we know the importance of this law to the people.”
Hamzah (Larut-Bersatu) was speaking at a press conference in Parliament today after the vote, criticising other political opponents, including Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Warisan, for the constant chest-thumping and support even though they shared the blame in the political instability.
He took an example of Warisan’s manoeuvring to topple the Umno-led Sabah government in 2018 and PH’s “mishandling” of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination that led to a massive protest.
He said those who left PH had done so to stabilise the nation from further racial unrest.
“None of them here today acted on personal agendas but for the sake of the people. They wanted to ensure that there would be no more racial issues.
“They are willing to chart a better course for the future. That is why today I want people to understand that they are responsible people.”
At the press conference, Hamzah was flanked by Senior Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (Gombak), Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Jeli), Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), and other Bersatu lawmakers. – The Vibes, July 28, 2022
