SHAH ALAM – The remains of former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim arrived safely at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque, here at 10.50am this morning.

Members of the public were given the opportunity to pay their last respects to the former Ijok assemblyman with prayers expected to be conducted after Zohor at the mosque.

Among those notably present at the mosque was International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who was the first political leader who turned up and was seen mourning the loss of Khalid.

The funeral at the Royal Cemetery (Makam Diraja) is set to be conducted at 2pm.

The late legendary banker, who was instrumental in Malaysia’s 1981 “Dawn Raid”, which saw the nation take over then British firm Kumpulan Guthrie Bhd at the London Stock Exchange, had been hospitalised since April 23 due to a heart infection.

Earlier, his body was taken to Saidina Umar Al Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara to undergo Muslim funerary rites and be prepared for burial.

He passed away last night at the Cardiac Vascular Central Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

A post on his Facebook page stated that the 75-year-old passed away in the company of his family and loved ones, and is survived by his widow, four children, and two grandchildren. 

Meanwhile, at the Selangor assembly, a minute of silence was observed in remembrance of Khalid.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari proposed for the sitting to be temporarily adjourned to allow assemblymen to pay their last respects to Khalid at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque, here.

Upon the motion being agreed to, the sitting was called to a halt at 11.30am and is set to resume at 2.30pm. – The Vibes, August 1, 2022
