PUTRAJAYA – The RM34.70 ceiling price for 5kg cooking oil which comes into force next Monday applies to the whole country, said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, following confusion as to whether Sabah and Sarawak were affected too.
The announcement also follows concerns that people in Sabah and Sarawak would pay more for the same item after the new ceiling price was announced by the Jihad Against Inflation Task Force chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa for Peninsular Malaysia.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s Facebook page, however, announced that the ceiling price was applicable to the whole country.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said today that the ceiling price of non-subsidised cooking oil covers the whole country and that includes Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
“The average monthly price of crude palm oil will be decided by the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry every first of the month, and will be followed by the announcing of the new ceiling prices for cooking oil.
“The new ceiling prices will come into force every 7th or 8th of the following month,” he said in a statement.
Nanta said the fixing of the ceiling prices will be based on the simulated selling price of cooking oil at the retail level and take into account current crude palm oil development.
He said the ceiling price will also consider several unexpected costs such as logistics and existing stock with retailers.
Meanwhile, Nanta said the ban on exporting cooking oil in polybags was gazetted on Monday. – The Vibes, August 2, 2022
