KOTA KINABALU – The Rural Development Ministry aims to market as many as 5,000 rural entrepreneurs’ products on e-commerce platforms in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Its secretary-general, Datuk Ramlan Harun, said that the target is expected to be achieved by the end of 2025.

“The ministry also provides an allocation of RM20 million in the 12MP to intensify the e-commerce and digitalisation programme for rural entrepreneurs, under the ministry’s guidance.

“The initiative that has been introduced, Desamall@KPLB, is to help rural entrepreneurs market their products online through e-commerce platforms and digital applications,” he said.

He said this to reporters in conjunction with the third edition of the rural entrepreneurs’ digitalisation programme, at the Kota Kinabalu International Convention Centre here today.

The programme’s first edition was held at the Rural Development Ministry, Putrajaya in June, followed by the second edition in Penang in July, with the last one being held in Sabah.

Ramlan said that a total of 700 rural entrepreneurs across the country have participated in the three programmes held thus far.

He said that the ministry strongly encourages the involvement of more rural entrepreneurs in digitalisation, because it has become a business trend nowadays to prepare entrepreneurs for the fourth industrial revolution.

“The ministry will redouble its efforts so that all targets will be achieved by the end of 12MP,” he said. – Bernama, September 20, 2022
