Only two months now for bodies under PAC scrutiny to respond

KUALA LUMPUR – Ministries, government departments and agencies scrutinised by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will now have two months instead of three to respond and submit updates.

The shorter duration, said PAC in a statement today, is to ensure that every recommendation made by committee will be taken seriously, especially by the respective ministerial secretary-generals.

“All secretary-generals must also submit written interim reports to PAC on actions taken based on the recommendations made by the committee in the first month. In the second month, they need to appear before PAC and present their latest updates,” said PAC.

“This will allow PAC and the people to know the follow-ups done by the government over the recommendations made by the committee in each of its reports.”

Since the committee started its meetings on November 3, PAC has met 25 times and tabled four reports, and will be doing another 10 meetings and tabling four more reports in the near future.

The pending reports are:

1. PAC report on Education Malaysia Global Services.
2. Follow-up report by the Finance Ministry and the Domestic Trade and Consumerism Ministry on PAC’s recommendation on the management of liquified petroleum gas.
3. Follow-up report by the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry and the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry over PAC’s recommendation on the development of air mobility.
4. Follow-up report by the Finance Ministry and Khazanah Nasional Bhd over PAC’s recommendations on Khazanah’s investment losses. – The Vibes, November 25, 2020
